Hello, Word!

I've recently come across a blog at a place called the Enlightened Perl Organisation encouraging Perl practitioners to, well, blog about Perl.

I can do this.

By way of introduction: I am Yet Another Perl Hacker; a programmer/analyst who has had the privilege to spend most of his working day creating Perl goodness since 1999 or so. I am a Windows guy; although I dabble a bit in the Linux world my bread and butter work (and all of my programming) takes place in a Windows environment.

Specifically, I use ActiveState's wonderful Perl implementation. I haven't been completely sold on the 5.10 builds, and thus my current interpreter is 5.8.8, build 822. I also use their Perl Dev Kit (version 7.3) to build .exe versions of my code, some of which takes the form of NT services. My dev workstation is a stout HP 8510W laptop running Vista. Most of my code is authored in EditPlus v. 3.10, although when pressed I will also sometimes use Notepad++. Version control is handled by CVSNT.

My main problem domain concerns Microsoft Exchange reporting. I develop a tool for my employer which is used in our outsourced messaging engagements to produce SLA- and SLO-centric reporting utilizing a MS SQL Server backend. As such, I've got a lot of T-SQL stuff floating around here in addition to Perl.

That ought to wrap things up for an introduction. I'll see you next time.
